API Keys

VIA Online supports API keys for programmatic access. API key management is available to organization administrators only, via Admin → API Keys.

Generating a key

  1. Go to Admin → API Keys.
  2. Click Generate New Key.
  3. Give the key a descriptive name.
  4. Click Generate.
  5. Copy the key immediately — it is shown only once. If you lose it, generate a new one.

After closing the generation dialog, the full key value is never shown again. Always copy and store the key securely when you generate it.

Revoking a key

Find the key in the list and click Revoke. The key is invalidated immediately.

Security best practices

  • Generate one key per integration or use case so you can revoke them independently.
  • Never share keys in plaintext channels (Slack, email). Use a password manager or secrets vault.
  • Rotate keys periodically as a security hygiene practice.
