Calibration Guard

Calibration Guard is a background protection daemon that ships with VIA Onboard. It watches ViciVision machine calibration .ini files and reverts any unauthorized changes — i.e., changes made when no valid license key is installed.

It runs automatically as a Windows Scheduled Task after VIA Onboard is installed. You do not need to start or manage it manually.

Install a license key

To authorize a calibration change, a time-limited license key must be installed on this machine. License keys are issued by ViciVision staff.

To install a key via VIA Onboard:

  1. Go to Settings → Service.
  2. Paste the key string into the License Key field.
  3. Click Install Key.

VIA Onboard writes the key to the Windows Registry (HKLM\SOFTWARE\ViciCalibGuard). The guard reads it on the next file change or interval check.

Check key status

From Settings → Service, the current key status is displayed: - Valid — the key is active and calibration changes are permitted until the shown expiry date. - Expired — the key has passed its expiry date. New calibration changes will be reverted. - Not installed — no key is present. All calibration changes are reverted.

What gets protected

By default, the [LOOKUP] and [LOOKUP_VERT] sections of the machine .ini file are protected. These sections contain the calibration lookup tables. Additional sections can be added via guard-config.json.
