v1.0.0 Release Notes¶
Release date: June 2026 Platform: Windows 10 / Windows 11 (64-bit) Status: Stable release
Summary¶
v1.0.0 marks the first major release of VIA Onboard. It focuses on architectural correctness and reliability fixes uncovered during a full audit of the application — consolidating duplicated implementations, closing a resource leak, correcting a licensing scope bug, replacing a placeholder diagnostics page with real data, and giving Chat real multi-turn memory.
No new user-facing screens were added in this release beyond the Diagnostics rework — the focus is on making existing features behave correctly and reliably.
What's new¶
Chat now remembers the conversation¶
Previously, each message sent to the AI assistant was treated in isolation — VIA had no memory of anything said earlier in the same conversation. Chat now sends the full conversation history with every request, so follow-up questions ("what did you mean by that?", "what was my first question?") work as expected within a session.
Diagnostics page now shows real data¶
The System → Diagnostics tab previously consisted of four placeholder buttons that triggered fake browser alerts ("Pinging network...", "Checking disk...") and did nothing else. It's been rebuilt to show live, real data:
- System metrics: network status, CPU usage, memory, disk space, uptime, and last reboot time
- Service health: backend, dashboard, AI chat, and document index status
- A manual Refresh button
- An Upload to Dashboard action is in place for an upcoming release
Calibration Guard licensing corrected to machine-wide scope¶
Calibration Guard license and warranty state is now stored in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE (machine-wide) instead of HKEY_CURRENT_USER (per-user). License and calibration status are properties of the machine, not the logged-in Windows user — this was previously inconsistent between the installer, the guard service, and documentation. The installer now grants the necessary registry permissions automatically; no manual action is needed.
Consolidated Windows startup management¶
VIA Onboard previously had two separate, disconnected implementations for "launch on Windows startup" — one in the application itself, and an unused duplicate in the backend that wrote to a different registry entry. The unused duplicate has been removed. This eliminates a scenario where toggling startup off in Settings could leave a stale, hidden auto-launch entry behind.
Bug fixes¶
- Fixed a backend resource leak where repeated chat history requests could leave database connections open indefinitely during long-running sessions, risking "database is locked" errors over time.
- Fixed a registry hive mismatch in Calibration Guard that could prevent license keys from being recognized correctly.
Known issues¶
- Windows SmartScreen warning on first run — because the installer is not code-signed, Windows may show a SmartScreen warning. Click More info → Run anyway to proceed. This is expected behavior for unsigned installers.
- Long first-run document fetch — On first launch, downloading the bundled document library can take several minutes. CPU usage will be elevated during this period.
- Language setting — Italian and German are listed but not yet fully implemented. Only English is fully supported.
Upgrade notes¶
Upgrading from v0.9.1¶
This is a maintenance and correctness release — no settings migration is required. Run the v1.0.0 installer over your existing install. Your document index and chat history are preserved.
If you previously enabled "Launch on Windows startup," re-check the toggle in Settings → App after upgrading to confirm it still reflects your preference, since this release consolidates how that setting is stored.
Fresh install¶
Download from the Download page and run the installer. See the Quick Start guide for first-run setup steps.
Getting support¶
If you encounter an issue, go to Service → New Service Request and submit a request with: - Your machine ID (shown in Settings → Service) - A description of the issue - Any error messages from System → Diagnostics - The VIA Onboard version (shown in the window title bar)
