v0.9.1 Release Notes¶
Release date: June 2026
Platform: Windows 10 / Windows 11 (64-bit)
Status: Latest stable release
Summary¶
v0.9.1 is the current production release of VIA Onboard. This version represents a significant maturation of the platform from the earlier v0.1.x series, with major improvements to the Service module, settings architecture, system monitoring, and overall application stability.
What's new¶
Service module (previously undocumented)¶
The Service section is now fully functional and exposed in the main menu:
- New Service Request — Submit support requests directly from the application with pre-filled machine ID, contact details, title, and description fields. Requests are transmitted to the VIA backend.
- View Service Requests — Review all submitted requests and their status.
- Service History — Track completed service events on this machine.
- Calibration History — In-app view of Calibration Guard events (authorized changes and reverts).
Settings overhaul¶
Settings are now organized across seven dedicated sub-pages:
- App — Startup behavior, system tray, window behavior, language
- Appearance — Light/dark/system theme, zoom level, reduce animations
- Chat — Save chat history toggle
- Document — Search result preview toggle, max results shown
- Log — Upload scheduling, machine ID, keyword scanning
- Service — Tab visibility toggles, Calibration Guard license key installation
- System — Toggle individual System Status monitors
System monitoring improvements¶
- Smooth trend sparklines on CPU and Memory tiles (36 data points @ 10-second polling)
- Configurable monitor visibility — hide tiles you don't need
- Diagnostics sub-page for detailed backend health information
Calibration Guard integration¶
- License key install and status check built into Settings → Service
- Calibration History in the Service section surfaces guard events in the UI
- Full Calibration Guard documentation added (see Calibration Guard)
Theme engine¶
- Full light/dark/system theme support via Fluent UI
- Zoom level control (0.75× to 1.5×)
- Reduce animations option for accessibility and performance
- Theme follows Windows system preference when set to "System"
Chat improvements¶
- Conversation history persists and is resumable
- Citations are clickable — opens the cited document in your system's default PDF application
- Improved streaming — responses render progressively
Bug fixes¶
- Fixed an issue where the sidebar state was not preserved correctly across page navigations
- Resolved a crash when the backend was unavailable while fetching the document library
- Fixed incorrect machine ID being sent in service requests on first launch
- Corrected a UI glitch where the System Status grid would overflow on narrow windows
Known issues¶
- Windows SmartScreen warning on first run — because the installer is not code-signed, Windows may show a SmartScreen warning. Click More info → Run anyway to proceed. This is expected behavior for unsigned installers.
- Long first-run document fetch — On first launch, downloading the bundled document library can take several minutes. CPU usage will be elevated during this period.
- Language setting — Italian and German are listed but not yet fully implemented. Only English is fully supported.
Upgrade notes¶
Upgrading from v0.1.x¶
v0.9.1 is a major update from the v0.1.x series. The installation process is the same — run the new installer, which will update in place.
Before upgrading:
1. Back up your AppData folder: %APPDATA%\ViaOnboard\
2. Note your current settings (API keys, document paths, machine ID).
3. Run the v0.9.1 installer.
4. Reconfigure settings — some preferences may need to be re-entered after the update due to the settings architecture changes.
Your document index and chat history are preserved across the upgrade.
Fresh install¶
Download from the Download page and run the installer. See the Quick Start guide for first-run setup steps.
Getting support¶
If you encounter an issue, go to Service → New Service Request and submit a request with: - Your machine ID (shown in Settings → Service) - A description of the issue - Any error messages from System → Diagnostics - The VIA Onboard version (shown in the window title bar)
